How To Play Disc Golf
How To Play Disc Golf
Disc Golf rules are easy to learn. The rules of disc golf and how you play are similar to traditional golf, but with disc golf discs instead of balls and clubs.
Objective of the game
Disc golf is similar to traditional golf, but you use a disc instead of a ball and clubs. You take turns throwing your disc until all the discs are in the ‘hole’ – a metal basket. The goal is to complete each hole in the fewest throws. The player with the lowest number of throws wins. A hole is finished when all the players’ discs have landed in the basket.
Tee throws
Each hole starts with a tee throw, which must be made from within or behind the designated tee area.
Lie
The “lie” is where the disc lands after a throw. Mark it with a mini marker or leave the disc where it landed. The next throw is made from directly behind the lie.
Throwing order
The player with the fewest strokes on the previous hole goes first on the next hole. After that, the player whose disc is furthest from the hole throws first.
directly behind the lie.
Fairway throws
For fairway throws, the player must throw from directly behind the lie. A run-up and follow-through is allowed unless the lie is within 10 metres of the basket. Within 10 metres, the player must stay balanced and not move past the lie until the disc stops.
Mandatory – “Mando”
A “mando” is an obstacle (like a tree or pole) that must be passed on the correct side. If the disc passes the wrong side, the player must play from the previous lie or a drop zone and add one penalty stroke.
Out of bounds (OB)
If a disc lands out of bounds, it must be played from a spot one metre in bounds from where it crossed the O.B. line. Permanent O.B. areas include water hazards, golf greens, bunkers and boundary fences.
Safety first
Never throw when other players or golfers are within range. Always give players ahead of you the right of way. Stay aware of your surroundings.
